Fumbles were ridiculous, and that center-quarterback exchange needs work...
1) I wasn't happy to see Cribbs start at wideout in Masaquoi's absense. If we're really that hellbent on seeing Cribbs more, then let's see him in the backfield or as part of a spread option package once every 2 games, let's see him in 4 reciever packages, let's see him in the secondary.... let's not see him as a strating wideout. He caught a few nice passes from Seneca, but, come on. Every minute we spend doing this is a minute that could have been spent doing somethign else.
If we've wasted time on this in preseason practices, then we've cost ourselves a regular season game because of other things neglected.
2) Enthusiasm, of course is tempered by the memory of James Davis averaging 5+ yards a carry in the preseason last year then averaging less than 2 before getting hurt in real games... but.... it was fun watching Hillis bowl over people, even in the preseason. Having him and Vickers in the I formation is truly a POWER I.
3) Again, enthusiasm tempered by last year's results... Delhomme looks solid. good decisions, correct reads... not the guy I saw in silver, blue, and black last year. I tend to think that last year - we never make a game out of it when we start like that, even against a team like the Rams, and it's hard not to credit Delhomme with that.
4) Bad coaching. This isn't regular season, you need to work on shit. Zastudil is out, and I'd like to see Hodges work on taking the long snap in field goal game situations, especially in crappy weather, and I consider this more important than going for it on 4th and 3 in the preseason. I even get it the first time, showing confidence, etc... but... twice? Delhomme clearly had the team believeing it could convert tough down and distances. You don't need to convince me that the team believes in Delhomme. If you need to convince the team, however, it'll be a long season.
So I don't know, I saw plusses and minuses, McCoy looked terrible, which is good in a way, because he'll be wearing Ken Dorsey's uniform this year, which is what he should be, and there's no pressure from fans or organization to play him over Jake and Seneca.
What do you think?
